Rules

Why are there so many restrictions on the younger players in terms of formations and game rules?

The early years are designed to teach kids to play the game of football. Just like kids start playing T-ball, go to manager pitch and then kid pitch with stealing being added in there along the way, football at the younger ages is designed to let them learn the game in a constructive and competitive environment.

What ages can play in G19?

Children who are at least 6 and no more than 13 prior to August 1 may play in G19. The league also amended the rules to allow lighter children that don't turn 15 prior to December 1 and weigh 125 pounds or less to play with the 13s.

My child is a really gifted athlete. Can he play up to an older age group?

No. The only exception to this rule is if the child is too heavy to make weight in his own age group. Each community may then move the heavy kids up to the next age group if they have room and feel that it is not a safety issue for the child.

What about light 13s?

13s that weigh 100 pounds or less will be permitted to play with the 12s as long as they don't turn 14 before December 1. This was done to let kids play one more year of football when they most likely won't be able to play for the middle school. In all cases, each individual community will be determine the process for implementing these rule changes.

What about light 14s?

14s that weigh 115 pounds or less will be permitted to play with the 13s as long as they aren't on the schools 9th grade team and they don't turn 15 before December 1. This was done to let kids play one more year of football when they most likely won't be able to play for the middle school. In all cases, each individual community will be determine the process for implementing these rule changes.

Why the change to the weights and ages at 12 and 13?

G19 wants to give the most kids the opportunity to play football in a competitive and safe environment. We feel that this will open the game up to a few more children for a longer period of time.
